Thanks to all who responded to my question about reversing the direction of my Ford winch motor.   After reading many articles and emails, here is what I think is correct.   Please respond back if you think I am wrong.   1)  Cut the positive wire(s) to the two insulated brushes and connect one heavy wire to them both and take this wire out of the case.   2)  Remove and remount the two grounded brushes so they are insulated from ground.  Connect one heavy wire to both of them and take it out the case.   3)  To make the motor run in  the normal direction, connect the first set of brushes to positive and the second to ground.   Apply power as usual.   4)  To make the motor run in reverse, connect the first set of brushes to ground and the second to positive, appy power as usual.   5)  To allow this to be switched, use a 2p2t   On,On   very heavy duty switch and wire it so the brush wires +/- can be switched.   Apply power with a second switch as usual.  Do not switch the 2p2t switch while the motor is running or a big electrical spike may burn out the 2p2t switch.

Method #2.  Buy a truck winch motor already wired for both directions.  Use 4 solenoids.

Method #3.  Buy a permanent magnet motor and just switch + and - with 4 solenoids.

IF YOU THINK I AM WRONG, PLEASE TELL ME.  Thanks, Rick
