This skeg thing is a safety issue, just ask your great proponent of no skegs Don Edberg who had to jump out the way 2 times in one contest because the guy he was timing ( no skeg) slid through the landing zone (hitting them once). I have been hit by sailplanes a couple of times with enough force to do damage to my person, I have never been hit or cut by a skeg. If you think eliminating skegs will make for more gentile landings you have never been to a serious F3J contest when a guy is to hot he just spikes it and hopes for the best! Why do you think they can switch planes and their landings are in meters! The (SC)2 contest circuit uses no metal ahead of the wing and any sharp or dangerous looking spikes etc. can be not aloud to fly by the CDs discretion. And I have told people they could not fly what I considered dangerous looking skegs( ask Edger W.) Oh yes and by the way the full size sailplanes have a wheel with a BRAKE, I should know I had a brake failure once(very scary). Seeing as we stand in front of our landing planes I would prefer to have them equiped with a stopping device. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
