Hi Rick - Shannon is the President of the Rocky Mountain Soaring Association. He is an excellent up-and-coming competitor. This is the second year he made the flyoffs at the Nats. Shannon was flying an Emerald. His writeup for the newsletter didn't discuss what happened in the flyoffs, but the rumor was that the conditions were very tough. Both RMSA members made the flyoffs (Skip Miller was the other), so they had to split up and get flyoff teams separately. Shannon is a good flyer and I'm sure you'll see his name again. Although I see a lot of familiar names, all of whom probably have great stories of their daring do in the contest, I see the name Shannon Bingham. Can't help but be curious about him and his experience in the contest. He got into the flyoff round by finishing in first place in the preliminaries. Finished 8th (still verry respectable) in the finals. Can anyone tell me where he's from and anything about what he flew and stories about his contest day? Obviously a very good pilot who lady luck turned her back on.
