Let me say that the service I get from Sal has always been good. When I was a beginner he helped me choose correctly and when he is busy he always suggests a call back, when I do get his attention. The are only a handful of people out there who are qualified to give the kind of advice Sal can and does give, when he is not pressured. If your ego needs strokes above the facts, perhaps his talents are wasted on u. At the height of his season, I once wanted a HLG shipped that day by overnight fedex (this was at 4pm his time), he made the effort, got the package off that day, and I got it the next day, so was able to take my HLG on vacation. Would anyone else out there do that for me....I doubt it. Whatever one's preferences are, knowledgeable, qualified people in our sport are in short supply, I for one don't want Sal (or any of the other experts) to close their doors. It would be a loss for us all, even if u don't choose to deal with a particular supplier. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2000 9:53 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RCSE] Service in the Soaring World.... With all the bashing of Sal I had to step in. And no not to defend him :). I think sometimes we in soaring forget what great service we do get from some of the companies we deal with. I think Sal gives service that is "average" or slightly below for the (radio control) industry at large. I think that most of the time in soaring we get much better service than anyone in the other disciplines would expect. This is probably partially due to the small size of the soaring world, partially due to the great people this sport attracts. Try calling Tower Hobbies and asking a question. More often than not they cannot even begin to answer the question. I have received exceptionally great service from Karlton at multiplex and Darwin at Garrison Aerodrome. I would happily go back to them in a heart beat. Bob Dodgson would answer questions (many dumb no doubt) endlessly without even a whimper. I have ordered things from Sal; wasn't impressed with the service, and appalled by the packaging of my airplane. As a result I probably won't order from him again. However, I also know that Sal does have many airplanes others do not. He also supports the sport in many ways. If his service and personality bothers one that much don't order from him. Eventually if enough people decide to not order from him the business will close. Hopefully by the same token businesses like Multiplex and Garrison Aerodrome will prosper. No one need get all bent out of shape on the list. After all its a hobby, possibly a sport; if its stressful its pointless. mi dos pesos- Kristopher Harig <~ look I even signed my name!
