Hi Bill,

There are at least 2 - the DARTS (www.daytonsoaring.org) and the Wingmasters (www.wingmasters.org).  If you're military or ex, you can also fly at WPAFB, but they have a pretty low ceiling.  Go figure.

The Darts field is better for sailplanes, very wide open, no gas planes to compete with.  We're located between Wright Patt and Yellow  Springs (map on the website), a horse and soccer park with miles of farm field around it.    Darts have 2 contests this weekend and an electric (F5J) next week, contact me if you're just looking to get out (and I'll ping the group).

The wingmasters field sits is a gas and electric field, but they do fly sailplanes, especially in the early part of the day.   A pretty good group of guys will typically be out there late morning, early afternoon thru the week.  I assume that's a perk of being retired ; )  .  Lots of turbulence around the edges of the field, just a heads up.  It's located off of Needmore, north of downtown, between Main and Dixie (Wegerzyn Gardens).

The best hobby shops around are RC Hobby - up Harshman from the AF Museum, Radical RC (off Springfield, across from the museum), and another store by the Dayton Mall (741 / 725 intersection).  Visit the museum if you can, they've really got some interesting planes.

Welcome to the area,

Brent
