Fascinating. We all have our stories. I decided to learn how to fly
(electric sailplane) and went to a local club only to be met by some
sorta like what has been described here, i.e. electrics are no good,
etc. I found out later this happened to be the person I ran into that
day, but it sure was a turn-off.

I then wandered down to another local club, Lewis and Clark RC (LCRC).
90% IC fliers, they took me in, accepted my interest in electrics
without batting an eye. Got me going in fine shape. Perhaps a year
later, I found sailplanes and focused there ever since. I belong to
LCRC even though they remain 90% IC. I took my Monarch D-lite down for
show and tell and they all marveled at it. One of the other
glider-guiders shows up with a 2 meter or open ship and we all enjoy
sharing tales. The IC field is about 8 miles or so from where we fly
sailplanes. I often wander by the IC field with an electric whatever.
Always warmly welcomed. Lately some of the IC fliers have been showing
up to watch us fly at the sailplane site. We've got a great bunch of
guys out here. I for one really appreciate it.

OBTW: At the NWSS regional tournament in early September this year,
during lunch break we had a demo of an electric plane, (SWAG F3B???)
All I know is it went like a raped-ape and was piloted by someone who
really knew what he was doing (placed internationally at some major
event) We all Ooo'ed and Ahhh'ed. Electrics are often seen at
sailplane sites.

We have a great bunch of guys out here. No, wait, I said that already.
;-)

OK, back to the ranting.
