--snip-- >Rigging suggestions? Interesting. I am using a typical Ford long shaft starter motor winch, usually without a retriever, and this weekend had two smallish split rings on swivels fail. My chute ended up sorta sailing off and after one failure, for a moment, caught a thermal. (!) I'm revisiting this rigging issue, too. Some folks don't use a chute but rather a strip of nylon braided strap with a couple of welded D rings stoutly sewn in. Why use a chute? What are the advantages of a chute over a braided nylon strap (or advantages of the nylon strap over the chute). The strap seems like a perfectly useable device for launches and I've never seen one have a problem, but the only folks I've seen use them also use retrievers. Any and all comments on things to put on the end of the winched tow line are welcome. Thanks, Bill -- Your conscience never stops you from doing anything. It just stops you from enjoying it.
