The ELAN P111 and P222 cards install and operate fine with the card, and
will fit in the Soekris case without issue. One problem I have run into
previously is that there are a variety of vendors that make clones of
those cards, and most of them won't support all functions of the pcmcia
cards.

off and on quite slowly, around one to two blinks per second.

If your OS boots, your problem must be something else.
The Soekris bios disk size limit is 128
