hello, i pxe'booted a 4501 (Bios 1.32) with a 2gb CF and installed a
normal debian etch installation (/boot -10mgs, boot flag .. /var and

of a message. i tried to use the menu to install lilo (as suggested on
the wiki) and also fa

hello list,
i'm a happy 4501 user and since my external drive died loosing much of
my personal data (and hence, learning an important lesson: backups are
necesary) i planned buying 2 x 160gb Western Digital disks (on sale
now) and attach them to my 4501 trough a pci2usb card. on top of this,

agree, dd is a true *nix tool. What does people use to measure seek
times on CF? I think considering the size of CF , most I/O will last a
few seconds so seek time would come more interesting than plain and
boring R/W...

Hi,
I'm definitely not using 6 Soekris 4521 with case + CF (64Megas) ,
they are virgin boxes picking up dust at my home. I'm asking 100 Euro
each (its a truly bargain) + shipment. I'm Wien/Bratislava based and
I'm flying UK this weekend.
Let me know if anyone up to them!!!
Esteban!
Hi,
I've bought a few 4521 (4 units with case and 128Megs CF) and 4526 (1 unit
with case) which i wont use as hardware is a bit short in requirements for
the upcoming projects.
Let me know if you are interested. I'm Europe based.

Hi Chris,
yes , i see your point here but i was wondering exactly about the
hardware optimizations (i'm aware of software ones...well, the common
ones!)
reviewing the chipsets used on the nics (for example), i've endup in
Via where the chipset is a common hardware used on common nics (like

Hello List,
I'm not really good at hardware, but some people i work with came with
this question i couldn't really answer. When net5501 says:

of different func
does anyone have the output of vmstat , netstat and iostat ,etc to see
how the hardware was performing at that time? would be really
interesting to see and compare.
i think bsd wont make much more speed difference in terms of packet
size in order to nat, more sounds to me pps would be the variable

hi list,
been using my 4526 with netbsd for some time, dont ask me why i cant
get fully comfortable with bsd so i tried today installing debian
using their netbood installer package...all goes sweet until i have to
choose a mirror were to download the packages.
the 4626 has one ethernet and wifi
i can provide a mirror in Austria if needed, i have a server on a dc
with backup / etc...

maybe would be cool to structure the documentation so it keeps
organized, minimizing chaos...i don't know, maybe a structure:

Many people documented a lot over 10 thousand different sites (with
broken links, old information, etc) , so maybe its just a matter of
giving a framework for documenting (twiki, etc) at Soekris site and
let people just collaborate?
Soekris is a company that makes profit
hello list,
i've got a 4526 and was planning to run it some bsd ... the thing is i'm not
sure how to flash it, should i simply use dd ? is there any other special
way? some "time saver scripts" would be great help over here :)
i dig ed on google, most of the stuff i saw is CF related and i don't
