We are trying to figure out how to get a hair like sheen using a normal or
flow map out of Mari to drive the specular as I have often seen in games.
They show using normal maps to drive the sheens direction on a horse in
this video.
As for the tutorial vids on YT and vimeo I started to grab them a few years
ago, when I was concerned about the diminishing of content on the web. May it
be wikis, forums or videos. Eg. Psyop had some very interesting and advanced
tech demos (vids and papers) about procedural UVing lagoa
I also use it full time, trying to learn some houdini, but it is slow going.

I do not plan on going to the dark side, so I don't expect any further
support from
AD. I managed to grab the existing Wiki (almost all) using HTTrack (thanks
for that tip, guys)
Glad to hear that the blog is not

Hi Fabian (and others),
This message was brought to my attention and I’d like to let everyone know that
although I am now working for Shotgun and haven’t touched Softimage (or been in
production for that matter) in a few years…
*I have no plans to stop hosting SoftimageBlog.*
The site is
So you would like a showing of hands who still uses Softimage in production and
are to some degree reliant on having access to help such as the Wiki every now
and then.
One big hand here! To me this is very real.
And more reliant than ever since this list is getting smaller as people are
Softimageblog.com is managed by Patrick Boucher. I know he thought
about closing this site several times in the past years. But I convinced
him not to.
I sent him an email about the current matter. We'll see
how he reacts.
