*Role: Sr.Solaris/** UNIX** **Administrator with 10+ years of experience*

*Location: Washington DC***

*Duration: 6+ Months*

*Process: phone screen and face to face interview*

*The Lead/Senior UNIX Administrator is responsible for all aspects of UNIX
administration including, but not limited to monitoring, troubleshooting and
repairing software issues at the O/S level on servers running
**Solaris**along with Managing a team of Administrators.


Specific Responsibilities:*

*
* He/she is responsible for equipment recommendation, purchase,
installation, maintenance, security, performance, and problem resolution for
the entire UNIX [Linux] environment.
* He/she is responsible for the installation and support of all third-party
tools which reside on the O/S.
*Configure and install new servers, devices and peripherals.
* Monitors and corrects hardware issues involving, disk, memory, and CPU.
* Document, Draft and Maintain UNIX server policies including but not
limited to security, patching, standard operating procedures, server
checklists, etc. regarding the UNIX environment.
* Suggest, recommend, and draft necessary additional policies where gaps
might exist.
* Report monthly the status of ongoing projects, tasks, and
responsibilities.
* The incumbent is responsible for working with users in determining who are
considered authorized users for each network, ensures license compliance,
and applies the most current patches                for systems and
software.
* Of paramount importance is the strict adherence to policies and procedures
and, where necessary or requested, drafting and promoting new policies and
procedures.
* Solicit competitive proposals and draft RFP*s for the procurement for UNIX
equipment
* Ensure that detailed inventories and maintenance agreements are available
and in place for all UNIX devices and equipment
* Develop and maintain technical documentation for system and user support
staff regarding all system issues.
* Provide metrics for UNIX environment reporting on stability of environment
and SAN utilization.

**Qualifications**

Knowledge/Skills*

*
* **Strong Experience with **Solaris** 8, 9, 10** is required**
* **Shell scripting** knowledge is required
* Hands-on experience with **Verities Volume Manager**, **Cluster Server and
Volume Replicator** is required.
* Experience with **Open Source tools (Apache, Tomcat, OpenSSH, OpenSSL,
BIND and Samba** is required.
* Network/ IT related certification(s) preferred.
* Practical systems and network **troubleshooting skills experience in LAN
and WAN.
*** Network Protocol knowledge of TCP/IP.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:*

*
* Bachelors Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
required.*

* *

*
* **Minimum 10 + years** of hands-on experience in a multi-server
environment with proven** **Solaris** system administration**responsibilities.
* Experience as a **Team lead with transaction-oriented environment**.***

**Strong experience with Solaris 10 with domain/zone, and enterprise
hardware .***
