Sounds like a good idea to me. The tricky part is in testing, I

If you're adding a new field that only needs to apply to new
documents, just add it to the schema, restart Solr, and add new
documents. If you're changing a field definition or you need older
docs to have a new field added to them, then reindexing completely is
the way to go.
