I am planning to use DataImportHandler with Solr1.2 . How can I port this?

I may need to work with Solr 1.2 for now. I do not forsee 1.3 getting
released by that timeframe.
The tool does not work with Solr 1.2. How can I port it to 1.2?

ETL tool to synchronize our DB with Solr. Looks like this is a better
approach.
