Thanks Paul. I initially install 11GR2 with character set WE8MSWIN1252.
I'm not sure why this was the default when installing on a Linux node.
Anyway, I reinstalled and chose UTF8 or AL32UFT8. Installing spacewalk
was successful afterwards.

Well the default for one of the databases postgresql is UTF-8, and I didn't
notice any thing in the schema to change it so I'm fairly positive thats
your only option, however I could be wrong.
