I do "ifconfig ppp0" i don't have an IP address and when i try to connect,

I've just installed mandrake 8.2 downloaded mgmt.o from Alcatel. Copied
it to /usr/share/speedtouch.
I configured my connection using the wizard in Mandrake (left the DNS
boxes blank). When I try to connect it fails.
