I have a machine that has a speedtouch modem and I got it to successfully work with a 2.4 kernel.
I recently upgraded the box to a 2.6.7 kernel and have endless problems. I've read the archives and tried many of the solutions including using '-e 1' with pppoa3, using pppoa2, upgradeing speedtouch to 1.3, and I even applied the kernel patch that was causing OOPSs in ppp_sync, and finally fixed that. But still everytime it tries to connect I get: Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppoa3[3448]: pppoa3 version 1.3 started by root (uid 0) Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppoa3[3448]: Control thread ready Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppd[3122]: Using interface ppp0 Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppd[3122]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/48 Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppoa3[3448]: host --> pppoa3 --> modem stream ready Jul 7 01:06:45 localhost pppoa3[3448]: modem --> pppoa3 --> host stream ready Jul 7 01:06:50 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep7out Jul 7 01:06:50 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x7 len 53 ret -110 Jul 7 01:06:56 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep7out Jul 7 01:06:56 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x7 len 53 ret -110 Jul 7 01:07:02 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep7out Jul 7 01:07:02 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x7 len 53 ret -110 Jul 7 01:07:08 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep7out Jul 7 01:07:08 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x7 len 53 ret -110 Jul 7 01:07:14 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: bulk timeout on ep7out Jul 7 01:07:14 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x7 len 53 ret -110 Jul 7 01:07:16 localhost pppd[3122]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests Jul 7 01:07:16 localhost pppd[3122]: Connection terminated. When I boot back into 2.4 things go fine, but I can't make this work in 2.6.7 for the life of me. That said, 2.6 rather important as its required for some software that only runs on 2.6 kernels. I've been using 2.6.7 kernel in a redhad based distro.
