Sorry it has taken me forever to reply but I have been away from my email
for quite a while.

You are right - noone had any idea what to do to solve my problem - I did
struggle with it for a bit more, but then I decided to try mandrake on a
small 500mb partition, which did connect (With alcatel closed source
drivers) but disconnected after anything between 2 minutes and 5 hours.
Then I tried to do a proper install of mandrake, but about this time my
old frankenstein pc decided to reboot randomly every 10 minutes so I gave
up completely and went on holiday. I will have another go soon though.

I cant find you original email now, but I seem to remember that our
problems weren't that similar after all. My problem was that ppp2a never
received anything back from the adsl modem when sending configuration
requests, even thought the lower layer ppp layers initialized without
problems. However my understanding of ppp is limited, and I could be
horribly wrong. I seem to remember that you did include the log from ppp2a
at all, but I cannot find the email in the archive, so I cannot confirm it.

Feel free to send me your logs again and I'll have a look.

Yours sincerly.
