There where two commits (both merged into 5.0.0 as part of PR#10191), the initial one was ok, but the second commit made a change due to some issue with "memoir" class (not used by Sphinx by default) and this change caused the order of some things to get wrong. Testing was insufficient, and the things was buggy since.
