Hey Dave, To repeat what everyone has said - do what works best for you... The only word of caution I would give you is: If you plan on doing something a little different seat wise (i.e. Miata seats as many of us have) then matching black is a little easier than matching the tan. Other than that

RE: International postage question (Shipping parts, no LBC but car parts)

2004-12-08 Thread Chris Foster
Although I haven't shipped overseas, living in Canada and buying from the states, I always ask that things be shipped USPS rather than UPS. Believe it or not the reason is simple, USPS drops it at the post office and I pay the tax on the declared value of the item, vs. UPS charges a brokerage c

RE: late spoiler

2004-12-07 Thread Chris Foster
Hmmm My '76 had a spoiler - it was lost in an unfortunate incident with a raccoon at high speed (ok I was lucky I only lost the spoiler). That said, I a) think the car looks better without it and b) don't see any different in cooling or handling for the car. But as we all know, each spit is a

2004-09-14 Thread Chris Foster
Hi Matthew, If I remember correctly, the '76+ all used an OPUS electronic ignition. The plug you described mates with a ?female? adaptor that comes from the OPUS system mounted under the distributor cap - that is if you are still using the OPUS. In my case I switched over to the Petronix. To do

I tend to agree with Richard, it sounds like a DPO issue. As for things to be aware of post '76 is the OPUS electronic ignition. If and when you start having odd ignition problems, my experience is to start here. You can either change it back to points, or replace it with something like the Petro

FW: crazy oil pressure

2004-06-28 Thread Chris Foster
Was this perhaps on Saturday? I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me... I had just done the oil change, and this time used Valvoline 20/50. When driving on Saturday, all of a sudden I couldn't maintain oil pressure (I unfortunately have the idiot light, not the gauge). I checked the o

I too have made my own panels, however mine are secured slightly differently than the originals - actually I like the finish a little better. As Paul indicated there are three clearance holes around the door pull that if not there create a bump in the panel. However, my panels only have the

Bob, I found one of the easiest things to work with is contact cement for any contouring of the interior vinyl in the car. Following the directions, it takes about 10 min for it to setup on each side (don't rush this), but after that you have about 1 hour to mate the two pieces. The only catch h

Ed, As Richard mentioned, the Miata seats option has been tried by more than a few - Paul Tegler has a great site on how to install them. Personally, I really like them because they not only give you speakers for the car, but more importantly if you are using the car as a somewhat regular vehicle

Paul, I too have done a similar repair to my dash-top, however I found that a latex based caulking compound worked very nicely to fill the cracks. Once it has dried it can be shaped with a razor blade and is very resilient to finger dents! Here I am 2 years later and it still looks as good as the
