I have been stopping oil leaks in my 76 for two years now. Slowly but surely
I have plugged them up. The last leak was the rear seal. I pulled the engine
and found that the seal was pushed all the way to the crank face of the seal
plate, and the seal spring jumped off the seal lip and was laying

You need a new pushrod, pushrod pin, and bearing assembly pin with
resistance stay. I just did this. My 76 got so bad I could not even shift
it into reverse with the engine running.
At minimum you are looking at pulling the engine forward 6- 8 inches to get
to the pins. Best thng to do is to go
I have a metal bench and I put an oak board scrap on the bench and slam the
rear end of the master cylinder on the board until it pops out the back
enough to grab it with pliers.

I have not done the conversion to dot-5 on any of my projects. Still using
dot-4. I think that most of the trouble with breaking systems on spits is
because fluids are not changed on a regualr basis. I believe dot 4
replacement is recommended every 2-4 years. I have a 76 rolling restoratoin

You can access and remove the slave cylinder from under the car if you pt it

I used petroleum jelly and wheel bearing grease most of the time, I just
bought a product from Advance Auto for greasing break shoe to plate rub

The best way is to use a 1ohm shunt bar between the battery and the charging
system. This will gie you one amp per volt. You measure accross the shunt.
This way you can examine charging current from idle to road RPM. You can
also test with auliliaries like radio, lights on and off.

You might invest $20 US in a Harbor Freight solar charger. That will keep
your battery up inbetween starts.

Anyone have a slave cylinder bracket for sale or trade. I bought a bell
housing off ebay and I plan to experiment with some available 5 speed
transmissions for the spitfire. It did not come with the slave cylinder
bracket.

Can someone tell me the length dimensions of an over drive drive shaft? And
if it is better to use an older unit than one with the soup can joint?
I would like to know how to tell the 3.69 and 3.89 differentials apart. I

I had mine out in 2 hours.
First you will have to take the bolts and studs out of the top of the diff.
Then drop both wheels, loose the shocks, and take the bolts out of the

It should pop right out of there.
I was told that I would have to get the springs re-arched. Being cheap, I

Does anyone have a compillation of which engine parts are identical on each

I recently purchased an overdrive transmission for my 79 spit. It was a J

I have had a loud clunk on the driver's rear for a while now on my 76 spit. I
pulled the diff out last weekend to fix some leaks, checked the shocks, ok,

Put it back together and I still have a clunking noise in the rear d

I am taking apart my 76 rear end, it is leaking at the pinion and both output
shafts. It is nearly out of the car and aparently there are two type of
diffs. One that uses spacers and a torque spec and another that uses a
colapsable spacer on the pinion shaft.
Is there a way to tell them apart b
