I'm having trouble with intermittent functioning of my turn signals and running
lights. I'm pretty sure it's the fuse box, because if I wiggle the middle fuse
sometimes they will work again (I've also seen a little spark at the fuse when I
jiggle it). The bracket holding the fuse is a little loo
My '76 fed. model spit has an electric fan w/thermostat installed in front of the
radiator (pushing) and the stock mechanical fan has been removed. I never thought
twice about that setup as I've had no overheating problems (but this is the first
Florida summer I've had the car). A mechanic fri
Are there any "usual suspects" for a battery drain (2+ days will kill it)? Any tricks
or shortcuts for finding the problem? Thanks

Does anyone know why the '76 Spitfire 1500 (fed.) had a comp. ratio of 9.00:1 and all
of the others from '73-80 were 7.50:1? How'd they accomplish that and why go back?

Once again I come to sip from this fountain of knowledge. One of these days I hope to
know enough to actually ANSWER somebody else's question.
I have an aggravating sound (whistle, whine, shriek?) that comes from the engine bay
whenever the tach reads 2400 RPM. Not 2300, not 2500 (well, mayb
My turn signals haven't worked since the day I bought my '76. I really don't mind
using the old arm signals, but apparently a lot of today's drivers mind me using them.
So, I've decided to take on the devil I've been able to avoid so far: the nightmare
of wires tucked up under the dash.

Hello all. I'm thinking about installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my '76
Spit. I've bought the gauge and know where it's going inside (I hope, anyway), but I
can't decide on whether I should use a "T" fitting at the block so I can keep the
factory switch/dash light. On one hand, tha
Hello everyone. I've had something weird happen, and since this is the second time
it's happened I'm assuming it's not just some freak-of-physical-laws thing. Whenever
I FILL the gas tank, I get raw fuel dripping from the bottom of the engine (no idea
where it originates, although there is als
My '76 1500 makes this god-awful clanging noise when idling - if I brace/hold the
engine it will stop, and when the engine is running it stops as well. I've checked
all the engine mounts and they seem ok (the rubber's cracked, but that's about all).
As my friend the part-time mechanic says, "I
I could use your thoughts on the possible/likely causes of heat in the interior of my
'76 Spitfire. I've turned off the heater at the valve, and manually closed the vents,
so I'm pretty sure the heat is leaking (more like pouring) in from the engine and
drivetrain. I can feel it at our feet an
I bought an oil cooler kit (10 row) from Vic Brit but am now somewhat stymied on how
to install it. I've figured out how to mount the cooler, despite the fact that it's
too short to span the chassis members, but I cannot figure out how to put the round
thingie on the engine block. Sorry for th

I recently purchased a '76 Spitfire 1500. I've slowly been "fixing" (or trying to
fix) its most obvious problems, but 2 of them elude my repair attempts (and it's
starting to get expensive, so I need some help before I enable the Victoria-British
Ltd. folks to retire prematurely in style).
