I made a shield for the rubber boot by cutting a notch in a piece
of sheet metal. It keeps the boot from getting destroyed by the
pickle fork if the tie rod end is still in good condition. It will
deform the heck out of the sheet metal so just bash it flat again
after you use it.

I am converting a Herald 1200 to disc brakes using Sports
6 rotors and calipers (smaller than GT6 brakes but I had
them lying around) and a GT6 master cylinder. I have 3
sets of rear wheel cylinders, 5/8" bore, 11/16" bore and 3/4"
bore. Looking at a parts catalog, it seems that GT6's

I have noticed a lot more in the past week. Norton stopped
about 6 in one day on my sprintmail account. As noted by
another person on the triumphs list, one appeared to be from
somebody on the Audi quattro list, although I haven't been a
member of that list in over a year. And I got 3 in a
I think the last time this got discussed on the list, the
consensus was that you should use whatever your car seems to
run best with. I have seen a special oil formulated for
carb dashpots but haven't tried it. Some people use ATF,
some use 10W. My GT6 seems happiest with plain old 10W-30
I haven't seen the ones from Rimmers, but I installed one
from VB or TRF (don't remember which one I got it from) a few
years ago and it was a nice metal copy of the original box.
The bulkhead braces sit on top of
the mounting flange on the box and everything is spot welded

Anybody got one? I am gathering parts for a future

the ports that are all in a row like on a 1600.
Thanks,
Dave

I have also heard that GL5 is corrosive to the brass synchro
rings. I ran GL5 in a newly rebuilt Audi transmission for
about a week and saw brass in the grease when I drained it
to replace it with Redline GL4 so there is probably some truth to
this. I have used synthetic in my GT6 with D typ
You missed the gearbox input shaft seal. My GT6 leaves about
a 6" puddle of gear grease every time I stop after a high speed
run on the highway. I have replaced the seal at least 3 times
and it still does it. I finally cut an access panel in the
right side of the gearbox cover and just fill

I am now the proud (?) owner of a 1964 Herald 1200 convertible.
Lord knows I don't need another Triumph, but the owner made me
an offer I couldn't refuse (or vice versa). It needs just about
everything, but it's all there, the body is straight, and there
is only a bit of rust in the front wing
