By "top plate" do you mean the round disc with the three studs? And was the shock absorber shaft worn where it passes through the hole of that disc? It sounds like the rubber bushings had disintegrated a long time ago, and the shaft was rubbing against the side of the hole for a long time. If the

When I took my springs and shocks apart I noticed that the Spring top plates had grooves worn in them. The shaft on one of the shocks was even worn halfway through! What causes this and should I bother fixing the plates or leave them as they are. If I weld up the groove I'm worried that
