After a mere five years of jackstand fun, our Spitfire is finally, not only running, but legal, having passed both Safety and Emissions. So I've been doing a series of shakedown runs, further and further from home, to see if this car is ready to send off to college with my son next year. All

Well, thank you, everyone! I went out to mess with the car and came back to a mailbox full of answers! So I need a cable or a starter or probably both. I have a couple around here so I guess I'll break one open and also carry a spare (and a hammer, I mean, starter adjustment device) in the

Also chewed teeth on the starter drive gear can lock onto the flywheel preventing the starter from turning. The short term fix is to rock the car in 4th gear and the teeth will pop free and you can give it another go. The long term fix is to replace the starter (or at least the drive gear).
