Dave,
Sounds like you're on the right track. I just took a look in the catalog
and it does appear that the pump housing that you have would fit any
spitfire. If you plan to use a fan for a MK3, then you would have to buy
another water pump. If for the time being you want to use that water pump
Ward,
I have had a few people ask me that so i checkced the numbers and the ones i could
find are those of the Mk3.
I didn't take the pump off the engine. It was in one of many boxes that came with
the car.
Many of the parts i am finding are from a 1500 that i think one of the PO's wa

I couldn't agree more with this statement, in putting the TR3a back together
Dave,
Did that water pump come off of your engine? If so, I'm beginning to wonder
if you have a 1500 engine! I can't tell from your picture of the engine,
but you might want to submit the head or engine block number to the spitfire
list to make sure you know which engine you are working on befo

Terry is correct. I am thinking about replacing the bearing in this pump and using it
on my '68 Spit along with the same housing. I wouldn't DREAM of not fixing it first.
The bearing in there is really bad and it helps that my neighbor owns a machine shop
and has offered to help with the car
I think he was asking if the assembly (mid 70's model
water neck/thermostat housing, main body and late
model type of pulley) would work on his round-tail
car.
I don't think he's planning on putting a used water
pump with a worn bearing on the car. He might be able
to get the "pump" portion fixed

Hello again,
Thank you all once agian for your help in my water pump dilemma. Now i have another
question about that same pump.

But a car with that much rust will need a lot of careful welding and sheet metal work.
If quickie repairs are done, it might not even be safe to drive. At this point,
the water pump is the least of the problems. I think the most important advice
is: Have somebody familiar with Spits and their w
Severely rusted? Up here in the Rust Belt (Salt Belt, more like), that'd be

paid the equivalent of $450 and $650 US for them...) Sills, rockers, floors

This really sounds like a later engine! You may want
to check the engine number to see what year it
actually is.

Thank you everyone for your help. I had no idea what that 'thing' (the fan clutch)
was...nor had I any idea that the pump I had was the WRONG ONE! I have been finding a

The silver thing is part of the pump, really. BTW, a '68 should not
even have that. They were introduced around '75. If you get a proper
replacement pump, the fan will bolt right
up to the pulley. This assumes that your engine is original!
BTW, your car is severely rusted. Before spending a l
Dave, the "big silver thing" is the fan clutch. Looks like someone put a
later pump onto your 68. Mine for example is a 76 and has the fan blades
attached to the clutch. That should turn stiffly in relation to the pump
shaft. I saw the fan blades in the background. I believe your car

Hello all,
This weekend I tore apart the water pump becuase the pully wasn't turning at all. I
also wanted to change the thermostat.
Now my question is, there is a big silver 'thing' attatched to the pully that i cannot
get off. Every book i have looked in there is no such device attatched t
