Regarding the confusion about the AS numbers: Each node is indeed its own AS. However, to conserve AS numbers, some nodes share AS numbers. It seems like a contradiction, but it works anyway. The routers that share AS numbers are not in the same AS, because they do not have iBGP sessions connect
