My thanks to everyone for their input. Bottom line the AHJ was right. Per 2012
IRC if you use non dimensional joists in basements you put in sprinklers, fire
proofing, or gyp board. I think when they see the price for 2, 300 gallon
tanks, pump, piping and sprinklers they will opt for gyp board.
Tom,
Do you (or any other sprinkler person) have any experience with a Pressure
Tank as the approved automatic water supply?
It seems like the project of this thread would be ideal.

Brad,
It is great in theory but not in practice. Pressure vessels tend to be heavy (4
qt pan vs 4 qt pressure cooker). This makes them very expensive (buy and ship)
and heavy.
Would need a crane to maneuver and install. Easy to draw an ellipse on a
drawing with a note, but the rest is
And the ignorant among us, myself included, learned something. Since IRC

know. Thanks.

Folks,
Been watching the thread and wanted to chime in a little as Mr. Huggins, PE has
done.
Any 220V pump and any tank that will hold water are an acceptable supplies in
areas served by well water. And when sizing the tank, you may use the water
supply's refill rate to eliminate some of the
I actually did a 13D system with one of those tanks Potter used to make.
Spun fiberglass, wasn't heavy, beautiful design. Nitrogen from a 2K# tank
into the top and water out the bottom.
Even the panel that came with it had built in 9V battery backup.
Something happened with whomever was making
That does sound good Tom, thanks for the info.

Dude,
I believe every tank system has refill whether off another pump and tank, or
traditional domestic. We do pumps and tanks all over Boston (13D up to 3
family but 20 minute supply per Maurice P.) mainly because the purveyors are
so expensive with permits, bonds, tap fees and pipe rentals that
I recently inspected a wet sprinkler system.
It was installed in 1997 and had not been inspected or tested since
installation.
I conducted a main drain test.
The residual pressure was 30 psi. Static 75.
According to the hydraulic calc plaque, the residual should be 60.
The gauge was
