I have no idea if it would be practical in your situation, but I use
'mp3fs' (https://khenriks.github.io/mp3fs/).

This is a complete guess, but are the MP3 files VBR encoded? If so, that
may be the source of the problem, especially if the duration is being
reported incorrectly, too.

Glad it worked out. Sorry for my misdirection: the OS will use the
edited hosts file immediately, but LMS clearly gives up on mysb.com if
it isn't there when LMS starts.
