it won't be too much of a hardship to do without.

My prefs file is showing volume values of 76 for a number of players.
Amending and saving does not help the problem, neither does deleting the
file and letting LMS recreate one. I am reluctant to have to do this but
wonder if a compete reinstall is the only solution?

I did, yes but sadly it hasn't touched the problem. Sometimes the jump
in volume is immediately after a server restart, sometimes there is a
delay. It's very disconcerting!

It works well in conjunction with the Power Save plugin which turns your
SB player off after a period of inactivity.
