Got half a GB of RAM spare? That's more than enough.

Yes, a VM would be a simple way to try. But on this Samsung NC10? Not so
sure...
Isn't there a shrink wrapped VM image for this? Forget dual boot just
put VMware player or virtual box on and run it in a VM. Lots of folks

thanks again guys.
I'm looking to set up a dual-boot Windows/Linux boot on my netbook. I
have never played with Linux before so have a couple of questions:
- Can you recommend a preferred lightweight Linux dispro? I'm looking
at Lubuntu, Puppy Linux
- Will the music folders I have set up in
Agreed. A dedicated wired Linux server (a Pi included) is always going
to be more stable than a Windows box. IMHO you should never try to run a
server wirelessly. I am not saying it won't work but it's asking for
trouble that you don't need.

I have experienced many of these same issues over the years and I
believe there were two primary reasons. First, if the router
malfunctions then you will see similar behavior to what you have
described. Next time the LMS drops off check your wifi and network with
another connected device to make
Thanks guys. The server dropped out again a few hours after I wrote the
last note; I tried to unsync two players, and down it went...
Will try working it up this evening...
Thanks!

And you cut the wifi traffic in half . If you have that many players the
server should be wired .
Btw latest 7.9 will eventually work if you fix your firewall rules and
settings in other safety suites ( hint only use the windows provided
ones and for example not kaspersky ). It does work for othe
You would be FAR better off if you ran the Netbook/LMS on a wired
connection. Wi-fi is inherently not as stable as a wire. The players all
have a buffer and to an extent will do error connection but the server
will assume that it has a constant connection so give it one.

"Never" is good. Not sure why you are having firewall issues with 7.9;
rules are the same as earlier versions. Hope it stays solid for you.

Thanks. I followed your instructions (switched to channel 6 which is the
least busy of the 1/6/11 channels. We're up & running for now and will
see how long it lasts... As for LMS 7.9 - I installed it but the HTTP,
CLI & Slimtopro ports all listed as 'FAILED' and the system didn't work
(so I roll
Unsync everything. Unplug power to all players. Try a different wireless
channel; best to use 1, 6, or 11. Reboot router. Power up players one at
a time. If still dropouts, consider using wired connections via
powerline.
BTW, there in no reason the LMS 7.9 beta should not work.
