Hi I have installed squid on a debian sarge system which is running off a
usb key. Two questions:
a) can I run squid the squid cache off the memory alone as to not age the
usb key, as I am mainly using squid for squid-guard? Also when cahce with
the usb key it seems a little slow?

I was speaking for top output on Linux, what's
your OS/platform/version ?
It looks like in your case it could be the 'RES' column.

It simply means you are running Linux.. Linux always return RSS of 0
when queried using getrusage(). I don't know why Linux doesn'

Not really. If you have plenty more memory than needed then cache_mem
can put it to reasonable
I know that this is getting OOT, but i'm corious ..
using top alternate view, i found out that my squid is using 1224m of virtual
memory (VIRT). From that number, 268m are SWAP, 955m are RES.
So, some of my squid are not in the physical memory. Yet from free i got 0
(zero)
swap usage.. where do
