Using the default rpm from RedHat probably won't work.
Try Compiling squid from the source, as follows:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/squid --mandir=/usr/share/man
--enable-async-io --enable-wccp --enable-linux-netfilter

Type 7 ? The 7 in that configuration specifies a level of encryption for
the password. In your scenario, abc123 would be the password AFTER it has
passed thru the hashing algorithm, not before.
