i was wondering, is it a must that i should have a gre
tunnel setup for my wccp between squid and cisco to
work..?..
i've managed to compile my ip_wccp.o module for
kernel-2.6.5, and also got my router to see squid via
wccp.. but there's still no action..

No, ip_wccp automatically accepts any WCCP encapsulated packets and

For WCCP v1 you need both...

in fact ip_wccp is mutually exclusive with the ip_gre module. Only one of
them must be loaded at a time as both claims to implement the GRE
protocol.
