I created a directory, sqdata, to store users' preferences. The instructions say to give the webserver permission to write to the folder. When I follow the instructions, SM fails to work because it cannot access default_pref.

In my case the, apache is the owner and the group. When I set the permission to 300... all works well. By setting permission to 300, am I compromising the security of my system?

Also what permissions should be set for

default_pref
user.pref
user.abook

My permission set reads like this:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 99 Sep 20 07:38 default_pref
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 0 Dec 26 17:01 user.abook
-rw------- 1 apache apache 94 Dec 26 16:36 user.pref
