I've never tried adjusting the alcohol feed on my Mikado. I usually open it up a full turn and light the wicks. Can you get much in the way of speed control (governor) from adjusting the alcohol feed? Don

Don, If the safety's are popping off and you do not want to pull a heavier load, or run faster, you can reduce the alcohol flow to cut the heat so you are using the steam to run, not lift the safety valves. Walt

I got this idea from a fellow at Diamondhead 2000. Try black aquarium gravel instead of real coal. It looks the same but you don't have all the coal dust and fuss breaking it up. Got mine from Walmart pet section. Nah, doesn't smell right. Besides, what's wrong with coal dust on your
