This is very common way to "fire" HO scale live steamers. Jim from Puget
Sound has several HO live steamers like this.

Snails and slugs will not cross a strip of Copper.

Folks,
There was actually a similar prototype problem on a logging line up north many years
ago. Seems every year
there was a caterpillar migration across the railroads tracks causing all hell to
break loose as well as the
adhesion of said lines locomotives. Sanding was useless. Talk about sl
That's funny, I didn't see any snails. Looked like a bit too much speed to me.
Are you shure you don't want to do that again so I can get it of video tape. Neet
fire afterward though. LoL! You all should have seen it.

A generous application of salt causes slugs -- which look somewhat like
snails in a nudist colony -- to come "all to pieces" as it were. Maybe
sault could be used in a defensive manner to protect the track. Charles

Hello Walt and Mr. Lunk,
Just a thought (and not necessarily a good one at that).
You mentioned putting grease on the upright supports of the elevated track.
Have you ever poured salt on a slug or snail as a kid (or a terribly demented
adult)? Try a wide strip of tape placed sticky side down
I have successfully used "snail bate." I don't know how or why it works and
don't know where they go ..available from local gardening supply.

Mr. Lunkenheimer,
There is a type of very sticky pesticide that is designed to be applied
around tree trunks to keep insects from crawling up to do their snacking.
Its stickiness is similar to wax ring material. I don't know how it would
hold up in the Florida wet. Grease might be just as good
Thank you for your response. Your comment about the sound of the snails
singing has struck a chord (b flat, I believe) with me. After checking the
medical records of the current trackwalker, I find that he wears two hearing
aids and also complains of
hearing all sort of noises in his ears. I b
Thank you for your response. It seems the snails are trying to escape the
somewhat overly wet conditions we are experiencing at this time. The beer
bait would undoubtedly work, but I'm somewhat concerned about the possibility
of mosquito's imbibing and making life totally miserable here in para

Okay, Geoff. Just don't get carried away. This "electrified track" thing
could get out of hand. All kinds of uses for it could be dreamed up.

Well Steve
--Electrified track--fried banana slugs, so eat 'em with the peanut
fattened drunk snails who should be cooked over the smoke stack of you
favorite loco! Better if your loco is fired with charcoal, they will be
steamed and barbecued all in one shot. Gotta go--gotta set out the free
bee
Geoff,
The snails don't sing so loudly if you serve free salted peanuts with the
beer. What is the most effective method to shoo the banana slugs off the
tracks? I wonder if the guys who run electricity through the rails have
these problems?
Steve
Snail Slayer Steve,
As resident of damp-damp N.N. California, I heartly endorse your
recommendations to the Lunk. However when I tried the beer and set up beer
bars for the snails, the noise of the partying 'til the wee hours of the
morning kept us awake all nite. Have you ever heard a snail sing
