I've just now seen an interesting post on the G1MRA bulletin board, from a
supplier, claiming that most people in the UK use 28ga nickel for cleading
(boiler wrappers to us). I assume he means nickel silver or german
silver, and if so that's a very good material make things of. It's

Yes, I have used it on several locos. It is readily available in various
'shim' thicknesses in the UK, and is the preferred material for scratch
builders of electric mice.
Takes paint much better than brass.
However my prefered material for both construction cladding is good old
tinplate - or

Yes, very interested. especially as nickle silve and brass sheet are impossible
to get here. I buy brass sheet in Miami, but that costs a lot. A cheap/free
alternative would be very welcome.

What I don't see on the pinch rolls, are vertically aligned grooves
which allow a person to roll rod into controlled diameters-not often used
but nice to have.

building a sheet metal bending machine from common materials. The article
claims the machine can bend up to 1/4 thick steel.

The question of course will be how wide? There is a need for metal

Harry, I picked up a few .010 sheets many years ago on a trip to the UK. I've
used it for both 00 scale and now Gauge 1. It is an excellent material for
boiler cladding. It easily conforms to the shape of the boiler and will take
solder very well. Can't remember what is cost me then (28 years
