Yesterday I spent the afternoon at the Oregon Historical Society research Library and came away with a lot of information about the "Oregon Pony" including four 8 x 10 photos taken at various times during its life. Dave, if you traveled the Columbia Gorge from Portland to The Dalles

I have a picture of the Oregon Pony the first Locomotive in Oregon. It was the first locomotive built on the west coast by Vulcan Iron Foundry in San Francisco CA, 1858-59. According to information I have received it is the oldest surviving steam locomotive outside the Smithsonian Institute
