Jim, The company that you might be looking for is Finescale Locomotives by Tony Sant in England. He made the Port Class and Quarry Hunslets and the Talyllyn Dolgoch Locomotives, all in 16mm scale/32mm gauge. As far as I know, he does not build locomotives any more. If you ever find out that he ha

Would it be possible to use Pyrex microscope slides to make that kind of sight gauge? The Pyrex should have more than enough heat tolerance and the lab slides are very uniform in thickness, etc. True that would not eliminate the meniscus thing, but with a red line behind it, it should not be a

If I remember correctly, one LBSC books describes how to build that type of sight glass. I think it was his book "Live Steam". It wasn't on my bookshelf when I looked for it earlier, but I think that I am right. Bob
