Hi,
I am interested in working on the idea of  "Irregular Solar System bodies".
I have downloaded and built Stellarium's code and I am playing around with
it to figure out how it will be implemented.

Meanwhile i have looked at the 3d models of asteroids provided at NASA
website  http://echo.jpl.nasa.gov/links.html#ASTEROIDS .These are in .obj
format. I want to discuss which 3d Model format to use. I think .obj format
will work fine for the models because they are simple and no animation is
required. Plus there are many existing open source libraries to import .obj
file format 3d models in opengl. we can build up on one of them?  what do
you suggest?
