A df -h shows 1.6G of available store used (you remember it was over 2G
before you trimmed it).
slides-2.xo matches size and md5.

I executed sugar-intall-bundle slides-2.xo
This is exactly the procedure for Welcome Web which worked without a
problem.
I was running on an XO-1.75.
I did not try a direct install.
Please try it again. The error doesn't seem rational for the scenario
you describe. Erase the activity from the list view, then repeat the
sugar-install-bundle command.
