If the xo is connected to one of the ad-hoc networks will not see the
server, right?
May be is a good idea detect this situation and show a different message,
like Please connect to your school network or anything similar.

Good, I thought so. I agree. If there are multiple causes, then the
message should either list the multiple causes, or the message should be
restricted to a symptom ... hence it failed.
