Bill: I think silicone is better than epoxy since it has a little give to it. Because it is flexible when dry, it will maintain adhesion when the both surfaces expand and contract by different amounts either from temperature and/or water adsorption. Epoxy, on the other hand, drys rock hard.

Fellow Shadow Watchers Further to comments from John Carmichael and Jim Tallman I too always use silicone for just the reasons they have stressed. A useful extra tip is to drill three holes in a triangle near the extremities of the dial with brass woodscrews inserted into plugs in the holes.
