Hi Chris, The seasons are not well demonstrated on sundials with polar gnomons. These dials tune out the seasonal change to show equal hours. You need to go back to earlier concepts, dials using a vertical gnomon showing the length of the shadow, not the angle. Here are a couple of examples.

Chris, I would think that you might consider using a colored graphic over the face of the sundial (under the sundial lines) which would indicated the daily energy from the sun at that hour just using color. You might also do it with a three D graphic but that would be more difficult. Art Kren
