This query prompted me to consult Gianni Ferrari's excellent book on ancient Islamic Sundials. I expect that Gianni will be able to clear it all up once he is on line and able to chime in, but meanwhile I can't resist guessing: The script is Kufic, or kufic-ish, which is hard to read.
