Dear Anton The amount of finishing of the parts for the Schmoyer sundial depends entirely on the desired result. One could simply sand off any rough edges leaving the rough surface of the parts as-cast. This would leave only the tasks of carefully drilling the required holes and placing the time

Thanks, Luke! Laurel has the wooden models that were used to make the original foundry patterns and, by great good fortune, the pattern makers who worked with Mr. Schmoyer to make the patterns are still working. They were very happy to see the project again and I think they gave Laurel a sweet
