Sunny Day,

If you are looking for an interactive sundial that is a little bit
different, then you might want to build a shadow plane sundial. I believe
that there are not many of these larger sundials in existence, however, I
have found a couple of them on the internet.

There are a total of 81 "Dialling Guides" that cover the range of latitudes
from 25° to 65° inclusive in increments of 0.5°. The "Dialling Guides" are
in the form of tables and are for a horizontal shadow plane sundial. The
"Dialling Guides" are designed so the sundial will show local apparent or
solar time.

Each "Dialling Guide" contains 2 sets of tables. As the sundials are
intended for people there is information available to construct sundials
with east-west widths of 1 and 3 metres. The smaller sundial can be made
into a model to test the dial out. The larger sundial can be used to
construct a shadow plane sundial of any size and shape.

There is also a set of instructions describing a method for constructing the
sundial.
