Dear shadow-watching fellows

Next April I'll be taking part in the "Marathon des Sables", in the
Sahara Desert (Marroc). This is the first time I participate in this
kind of [crazy] adventure. My friends think I am mad. Maybe
I am.

Has any of you heard about this event? Any experiences on
crossing a desert? I am quite interested in learning everything
I can: proper dressing, shoes, techniques to face sandstorms,
orientation... Any hints will be most welcome.

I know at midday I'll feel like a walking gnomon (mandatory
reference to sundialling) under the inclement sun of the
Sahara.
