hi all

I agree Roger ... and I a learned a new word :-)

I have also a contribute: we haven't a unit for the angular speed of the shadow.
Last year, on the italian mailing list, I joked about it. The unit might be 15ยบ
per hour and we find 'mahgun' as its name. It was a joke, Alessandro Gunella
suggested his nickname, magun, modified in mahgun, because 'mah' is a slang for
'i don't know'.

Anyway, it may be useful. The minimum angular speed of the shadow of a polar
style is when it is on the substyle line, its value is sin(elevation) mahgun,
where elevation is the angle betwen the polar style and the substyle. It
maximum value is on the perpendicular line to the substyle, where the shadow
runs at 1/sin(elevation) mahgun.
On an equinoctial dial the shadow runs always at 1 mahgun.

The hour hand of a clock runs at 2 mahgun and the minute hand at 24 mahgun.

I'm travelling and the car has an old instrument with rpm, 1 rpm = 1.44
Kmahgun, I keep a turistic speed and I change gear from 3 to 4 megamahgun.

ciao Fabio
