I am using pidwig with gmail, yahoo and hotmail facilities. When I try to
use the invisibility status, google chat tells me I am using a client that
does not support invisibility. Anyone knows a way to solve this?

It appears the problem was related to ASPELL. I installed spell check
for the first time with this install. I had to uninstall it and pidgin
and remove the pidgin subdir to correct the problem
